The UT Tyler Police Department is recognized as a police agency throughout Texas, comprising of both police officers and guards.

Officers are responsible for a full range of public safety services, including all crime reports, investigations, medical emergencies, fire emergencies, traffic accidents, enforcement of laws and regulating underage drinking and the use of controlled substances, weapons violations and all other incidents requiring police assistance.

In addition, the university police department provides a wide range of services for the convenience and safety of students, faculty, staff and visitors.

Officers routinely provide services such as vehicle jump-starts, unlocks and personal escorts for those individuals leaving campus buildings at night, when requested.
