UT Tyler Launches ‘Outreach’ Program

The University of Texas at Tyler will implement a notification program on Wednesday, June 8 that will provide students important campus information, Ona Tolliver, assistant vice president and dean of students, announced.
The UT Tyler Outreach program is operated by Blackboard and will consist of emails, SMS text messages and voice messages. The program allows the university to inform students of notices regarding tuition payments, financial aid and other campus announcements.
“We are very excited to make this option available to our students. This system will help us communicate vital campus information to our students in a timely manner,” said Dr. Sherri Whatley, vice president for technology and chief information officer.
On June 8, all students will receive an initial email with the subject ‘Welcome to Bb Connect.’ This email includes an opportunity to opt out of the program.
Outreach is completely separate from the Patriot Alert emergency notification system, so opting out of one does not affect the other.
