Marketing and Communications Announces Department Restructure
March 18, 2011
In a continued effort to enhance recruitment and increase enrollment, the UT Tyler Office of Marketing and Communications has gone through some internal restructuring, Beverley Golden, marketing and communications director, announced.
“Since moving from a primary focus of media relations to one of marketing and communications, we’ve had to make some changes in job duties. We’ve expanded the duties of some existing staff and added two crucial positions. This will help us handle a little more of the marketing needs internally,” said Golden.
The department still maintains its former duties regarding media relations but has shifted the primary focus to marketing and recruitment. The first major project is revamping the university site, and the department has created a Web team to address those needs.
“We’ve had one person responsible for the Web site until now, so it’s great that we have been able to increase to five. We understand how important a dynamic and engaging Web site is to the recruitment process. We’re also working to make the site more ‘user-friendly’ for current students,” she added.
Robin Kelly is now the university’s Webmaster responsible for the overall coordination of the university Web site. This includes Web policies, content management system administration, collection of Web usage data and research and development of new trends.
Emily Battle’s title has changed to Web content coordinator. In this position, she will monitor the content of the university site to ensure that it is accurate, up-to-date and well-written based on Web standards. Battle will develop guidelines for writing for the Web that will maintain the new site’s appeal to prospective students and parents.
James Mbewe is the Web developer responsible for programming, research and development of new trends, Web video consultation and Web technology support.
Hannah Buchanan and Clarence Shackelford develop content and photography for the news site and upcoming events. Buchanan will maintain media relations and continue to develop news releases.
Other staff responsibilities are:
Carolyn Halbert, coordinator of university publications, and April Moore, graphic designer:
• graphic design (publications, advertising and UT Tyler Magazine design)
• major photography coordination
• printing consultation and coordination
Cheryl Riley, administrative assistant:
• advertisement placement
• assist with official logo coordination
• assist with upcoming events
