Spotlight: Jim Koukl, John Placyk, Bradley Martin

Drs. Jim Koukl, associate professor of biology, and John Placyk, assistant professor of biology, spoke at 2010 Texas Herpetological Society meeting which also coincided with the Dallas Fort Worth Herpetological Society’s monthly meeting Oct. 16 at UT Arlington.
Koukl presented “Radiotelemetry Studies on Resident and Relocated Adult, Hatchling and Juvenile Three-toed Box Turtles (Terrapene carolina triungius).
Placyk presented “Preliminary Molecular Phylogenetics of the North American Box Turtles (Terrapene spp.) using mtDNA.” Graduate student Bradley Martin of Palestine is a co-author on Placyk’s paper.
Topics covered several aspects pertaining to turtles and tortoises including natural history, ecology, conservation and advances in chelonian herpetoculture.
