2010 UT Tyler New Student Convocation

Valentino Achak Deng, the subject of David Eggers’ book, What is the What, served as guest speaker at the 2010 New Student Convocation Aug. 24 in the UT Tyler University Center Auditorium. A book signing followed convocation.

A copy of the book was given to every freshman as part of the UT Tyler 2010 Freshman Summer Reading Program. The book recounts Deng’s experiences as a young Sudanese refugee and later adjusting to a new life in the U.S. as an adult.
