The UT Tyler Iota Nu Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International, the international honor society for nursing, received the Chapter Key Award for a second time at the 2009 Biennial Convention, Dr. Linda Klotz, College of Nursing and Health Sciences dean, announced.
The award, established in 1991, honors chapters who excel in chapter-related activities, including membership recruitment, retention and professional and leadership development.
Iota Nu received its first Chapter Key Award during the 2007 biennium and was honored with a banner and its first key. This second key will also adorn the banner that is present at all Iota Nu activities.
Sigma Theta Tau International granted a charter to the Iota Nu Chapter at UT Tyler in March 1988. Chapter meetings are held at various locations in East Texas throughout the year and feature respected nurse scholars as speakers. The meetings offer an opportunity to interact with nurses from different work settings and different specialty areas.
Community service projects have raised thousands of dollars through the years and contributed to both local and international causes. An annual awards banquet provides members the opportunity to celebrate nursing and nurses in East Texas. |
