UT Tyler Begins Implementing New Web Content Management System

November 2, 2009

The Office of News and Information has begun the initial phase of the upcoming Content Management System implementation that will take place over the next few months.

The new CMS is provided by OmniUpdate and is called OU Campus ™. It will allow all official university departments to easily update their websites by logging into the CMS via their web browser.

“Departments will be able to update their web pages very simply without loading software on their computers or learning programming languages and without the need to design a web page,” said Robin Kelly, UT Tyler web content coordinator.

In addition, with the new template design being integrated throughout, the UT Tyler website will have a more forward-thinking, consistent look and feel that can be easily updated. It will also help address accessibility concerns as required by the State of Texas.

UT Tyler Migration Web Team

A migration team will be established by Kelly and will consist of one liaison – or content manager – from each official department on campus. Although there may be more than one person who has access to update a department’s site, it is vital that each department assign a content manager who is ultimately responsible for the site content and will serve as a member of the UT Tyler Migration Web Team.

Each department is asked to send the content manager’s name, phone extension, email address and the URL (website name) of the site(s) for which that person will update to Kelly at web@uttyler.edu.

Liaisons need to be submitted as soon as possible, no later than Friday, Nov. 13.

In selecting the departmental representatives for the migration team, please remember the following:

  • Each department is required to assign a content manager. (Other department members will be allowed access, including student workers.)
  • The migration team will meet at least one time as a group where specific information about the project will be discussed. As mentioned above, the blog postings by Kelly also will be a means of communication with team members.
  • Please send the content manager’s name, phone extension, email address and the URL (website name) of the site(s) for which that person will update to Kelly at web@uttyler.edu no later than Friday, Nov. 13.
