Steve Lopez, author of The Soloist: A Lost Dream, an Unlikely Friendship, and the Redemptive Power of Music, served as guest speaker at New Student Convocation on Aug. 25 in the UT Tyler R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center. 

A book signing followed convocation. His book has been made into the movie, The Soloist starring Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey Jr. A copy of the book was given to every freshman as part of the UT Tyler 2009 Freshman Summer Reading Program.
