A UT Tyler recreational sports men’s softball team won a city-wide softball summer league championship, Jameson Adams, rec sports coordinator, announced.
The 13-member men’s team named “UT Tyler Rec Sports” won in the City of Tyler Parks and Recreation Men’s Open Medium I divisional loop. This is the first championship for the team, which formed in May and played June 1 – Aug. 15.
“It was nice to go out and represent the school and community in a positive light,” said Adams, who also played on the team. “This was our second year to participate as a university, so winning the championship was a nice surprise for us.”
The team defeated five other city-based teams in the division. This summer, three UT Tyler teams of 40 students participated in both the men’s and co-rec divisions.
UT Tyler Rec Sports includes intramurals, club sports, outdoor adventures, fitness and wellness education programs.
