UT Tyler Longview University Center Wins Third Spelling Bee Title
June 8, 2009
The UT Tyler Longview University Center won the 18th annual East Texas Literacy Council corporate spelling bee competition for the third consecutive year, Dr. John Miller, Longview University Center director, announced.
Team members were Terry Steele, clinical instructor; and Longview University Center Circle of Friends members Shirley Williams and Kay Ray. Sixteen corporate teams participated.
“The team spelled words like ‘illuminati,’ ‘blitzkrieg, ‘mnemonically,’ ‘unbudgeable,’ ‘kanji,’ ‘exanthematic’ and ‘gymkhana,' before Mrs. Steele spelled the winning word ‘schadenfreude,’” said Ray. “The team is happy to have won again for Dr. Miller and the UT Tyler Longview University Circle of Friends.”
The “Spelling Bee for Literacy” serves as the council’s primary fundraiser. |
