UT Tyler to Host Parenting Conference
February 4, 2009
Dr. Kathy Koch will serve as speaker for the Parent Services Center annual parenting conference on Saturday, Feb. 21.
“How Am I Smart: Releasing Your Child’s Multiple Intelligences” will be 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. at the UT Tyler Ornelas Activity Center.
Registration before Feb. 12 is $15 and late registration is $20. Proof of attendance will be provided and continuing education credit is available for professional counselors, social workers, marriage and family therapists and teachers.
Lunch will be provided by Cotton Patch Café.
Parents, teachers, childcare providers and mental health professionals can hear Koch explore the eight intelligences – logic, word, people, nature, music, body, self and picture -- to determine what their children’s intelligences are and how they affect their behavior and future choices.
The speaker will present specific ideas on what to do if “paralysis of the smarts” occurs, how to prevent it and how to reverse any damage. Participants will learn how to optimize a child’s learning style, reinforce study habits, select appropriate discipline techniques and celebrate the uniqueness and giftedness of all children.
Noted author and founder of Celebrate Kids, Inc., Koch speaks nationally and internationally to empower people to make positive changes in their lives.
Parent Services Center is a non-profit organization which seeks to provide parents and those who work with children the educational opportunities, resources and support necessary to raise children who can become healthy, contributing members of society.
