Catherine Ross Named Interim Director of UT Tyler Writing Center
January 22, 2009
Dr. Catherine Ross, associate professor of English, has been named the interim director of the UT Tyler Writing Center.
She replaces Dr. Brenda Tuberville who accepted a position as director of basic writing at Rogers State University in Claremore, Okla.
“Standing in as director of the Writing Center this spring is a duty I welcome not only because of my happy experience in Austin as one of the assistant directors of the rhetoric and composition division at UT Austin, but more importantly because I believe in this project,” Ross said. “This is a good idea to keep on a steady course, but it is also an opportunity to adjust and adapt our program according to ideas, suggestions and concerns of faculty and students.”
Ross holds a Ph.D. in British literature from UT Austin. A UT Tyler faculty member since 1998, she won an Alpha Chi Outstanding Faculty Award in 2001 and an Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award at UT Austin in 1999.
The UT Tyler Writing Center, located in Business Building room 202, will continue its mission to help build better writers and critical thinkers across campus, according to Ross. The center opened Jan. 20 for the 2009 spring semester.
