UT Tyler University Center Addition Opens
January 16, 2009

The Met dining hall offers plaza-level views of the UT Tyler campus. The UT Tyler University Center addition opened Jan. 12 and features a ballroom, sports cafe and lounge area.
The University Center addition is now open for students, faculty and staff to enjoy, Gregg Lassen, vice president for business affairs, announced.
“We’re delighted the University Center addition is ready, and we thank you for your patience as renovation work continues on the current portion of the UC,” Lassen said. “Once construction is completed, I believe the entire building will take UT Tyler to another level on terms of the quality of accommodations, and it’s another great step to the university becoming a pedestrian campus.”

At 35,000 square feet, the $15.3 million addition features a cafeteria-style dining hall and a ballroom/multi-use conference center. Other components in the three-story facility include a sports café, lounge and office space for the UT Tyler Student Government Association and student affairs division.
“There is an ever-growing demand for a place for students to congregate and enjoy their college experience,” said Kerrie Ambort, SGA president. “The UC addition provides this atmosphere for the students, integrating the beauty of the campus with a view of Harvey Lake, as well as a state-of-the-art café and a large ballroom, which can be used for a variety of student venues.”
The UT Tyler Bookstore, Career Services and Subway eatery have temporarily relocated to the Physical Education (PHE) Building.
