Championship Tournament at UT Tyler

The UT Tyler women's basketball team will host the 2008 American Southwest Conference Women's Basketball Championship Tournament. The Eastern Division champion Patriots (17-8 overall, 14-6 ASC) will play Mary Hardin-Baylor University at 8 p.m. Friday in the first round at the UT Tyler Herrington Patriot Center.

The Western Division champions Howard Payne University (25-0, 21-0 and ranked #2 in the nation) will take on Louisiana College at 1 p.m. Friday in the tournament opener. The three-day single-elimination tournament will feature the top four teams in the East and West Divisions and will conclude at 2 p.m. Sunday with the championship match up.

The tournament winner earns an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III women's basketball championship. This is the first year the UT Tyler Patriots are eligible to compete in the conference tournament, having completed the four-year NCAA provisional membership period in August.
