The Student Perspective: Robin Westby
Editor’s Note: This fall UT Tyler has announced many new and exciting changes.
With over 600 freshmen, a new residence hall, dining facilities, the Harvey Lake deck, a state-of-the-art engineering building and sorority recruitment, students can enhance their education and participate in UT Tyler’s vibrant student life.
In this Q & A series, UT Tyler students of all classifications, majors and backgrounds will describe, in their own words, the UT Tyler experience.
Robin Westby is a Shreveport freshman majoring in electrical engineering.
Q: Where do you live?
A: Ornelas Hall. I live in a 3-bedroom suite, but I only have one roommate and she is a sophomore.
Q: How do you like living at Ornelas Hall?
A: I love it! It’s so nice to have my own room. I have a younger brother and sister and I have never had my own room before. I love having my own privacy.
Q: Since you are the oldest and the first to go off to college, how did your parents react?
A: My mom brought me and she was fine. She told me to have fun!
Q: What made you choose UT Tyler? What made you choose to major in electrical engineering?
A: I heard they had a new engineering building and I really like math.
Q: How do you like the food at The Met? Is it what you expected?
A: It’s really good, and it is what I expected, because they told us it was going to be made to order food.
Q: What is your favorite meal at The Met?
A: The hamburgers.
Q: Did you know anyone that was also coming to UT Tyler?
A: No, but I have met a lot of new people. Orientation really helped and the other night about 100 freshmen and some orientation leaders played Capture the Flag on campus at midnight. My team won. It was a blast!
