Student Veterans Spotlight a Need

Folding the flagThe University Student Veterans Association is raising money to purchase a spotlight for the flagpoles on campus. The spotlight is estimated to cost $1,000.

Over $300 has been raised from a candy fundraiser, and donations are being accepted.

Until the funds are available, members of the USVA are raising and lowering the American flag daily to coincide with the etiquette of displaying the flag. Unless spotlighted, the American flag should not fly in the dark, and should also be taken down during inclement weather.

A special flag folding presentation will be held 5:10 p.m. on President’s Day, Monday, Feb 20, at the campus flagpoles. The UT Tyler community and public are invited to hear Dr. Thomas Allen, associate professor of music and marine veteran, read a poem explaining the representation of each fold of the American flag.

To make a donation or for more information, contact Shelia Jones, USVA advisor and UT Tyler administrative assistant II in academic advising, 903.565.5718.
