Students Vote “YES” for Fee to Renovate UC
March 31, 2005

UT Tyler students vote “yes” by 142 votes to a new student fee to renovate the university center.

The results came from 10.2 percent of the 5,308 students registered for the spring 2005 semester at all three campuses.

Now, the Senate and House must approve the fee in order for the Board of Regents to give UT Tyler the authority to implement the fee.

In all probability, the fall of 2006 is the earliest the fee could take effect.

In addition, a tuition revenue bond is in review with the Legislature. If the bond completely passes, UT Tyler would receive $7 million, which is enough to begin phase one of adding dining services.

The renovations would include full dining services, with five to seven vendors, increased seating capacity, the opportunity for more student programming, a student lounge center and expansion of the bookstore.

Three concepts have been submitted by an engineering firm where discussed, but a final design has not been chosen.
