UT Tyler Library Waives Fines for Canned Goods
December 21 , 2005

Muntz Library collected 420 canned items for two UT Tyler food drives this fall by waiving library fines.

For every five canned goods that were donated, the library forgave fines for one overdue item.

“We collected cans for the food drives, and got library books returned. It was a win-win situation for everyone all around,” said Penny Reynolds, UT Tyler librarian and head of circulation and interlibrary services.

In October, Alpha Phi Omega, a UT Tyler service fraternity, held a food drive benefiting the East Texas Food Bank. The UT Tyler library collected 259 canned goods, and forgave $349.25.

The library collected 161 canned goods and forgave $317.50 in November, during a food drive held by three UT Tyler organizations. The drive was organized to help replenish the East Texas Food Bank, which gave to victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
