Computer Redistribution Policy & Procedures

  • Computer wiped by Campus Computing Services employees and departmental technical support staff must have the approved form affixed to them for the Physical Plant will transfer out of departments.

UT System Security Practice Bulletin #1:

This form must be completed and returned to the Information Security Office for all laptops which are not encrypted.  Annual submission is required.

Note:

All UT Tyler employees are expected to adhere to all laws, rules and regulations, statutes, University policies, as well as UT System system-wide policies that apply to the activities of the institution.

Password Policy:

  • In July 2009, UT Tyler implemented a new password policy for centralized computing resources
  • Details of the new password policy are outlined below:
    • Password length: 10 characters
    • Complexity Requirements: Must contain 3 of the following
      • English uppercase characters (A through Z)
      • English lowercase characters (a through z)
      • Numerals (0 through 9)
      • Non-alphabetic characters (such as !, $, #, %)
    • Password Age: 183 days
    • Lockout duration: 15 minutes
    • Password history:  Remember last 4 passwords
    • Minimum password age: 0 days

Claiming Login Credentials:

  • New users may claim their login credentials by presenting a picture ID in BUS 102

Password reset self-service (Mypassword)

  • mypassword.uttyler.edu
  • Gives users the ability to set up self-service reset questions which will allow the user to reset their own passwords for the following resources:
    • INFO domain (Windows office & classroom computers)
    • myUTTyler
    • Exchange email
    • ImageNow
  • Allows help desk staff the ability to verify the identity of a person and reset passwords to the following resources over the phone
    • Lotus Notes internet password
    • UTEID password
    • Web FTP account
  • Users must answer 4 delivered questions and then provide 2 questions that they create themselves
  • Gives Macintosh users the ability to reset their Windows passwords at anytime

Password reset policy:

  • Password resets are no longer done via email and only over the phone when the identity of the person can be verified
  • Password reset questions pre-set by the users in mypassword.uttyler.edu are used to perform password resets over the phone

Locking Workstations:

  • Users are encouraged to lock their workstations when they leave them unattended
  • To lock a windows workstation:
    • CTRL + ALT + DELETE (simultaneously)
    • Lock computer
    • Okay
    • To unlock your computer, press CTRL + ALT + DELETE (simultaneously)
    • Enter login credentials
  • To lock a Macintosh workstation:
    • Follow the instructions found here.
