Current News and Announcements

Stephen B. Rainwater participated in the World Science Forum in Budapest, Hungary November 16 – 19, 2011. In his role as campus director for the UT Tyler LSAMP program, Dr. Rainwater accompanied junior biology major Juan Macias who attended the conference as a result of his involvement as an undergraduate research fellow in the LSAMP summer and academic year research programs.

Nary Subramanian attended and completed the five-day basic forensics training workshops offered by TxFRST Institute of UT Tyler from November 14th through 18th; the workshops included: CF101 Introduction to Cyber Crime, CF102 Forensics Tools and Techniques, CF204 Search and Seizure of Computers, and Electronic Evidence Workshop.

Sohraab Soltani attended The 14th ACM International Conference on Modeling, Analysis and Simulation of Wireless and Mobile Systems to present the paper: “Realization and Performance Evaluation of a Reliable and Stable Wireless Link Layer Protocol,” Hayder Radha (Michigan State University, USA) is the co-author.

Arun Kulkarni attended The International Conference on Complex Adaptive Systems 2011 in Chicago, October 31-November 2 and presented a paper: “Water Quality Retrieval from Landsat TM Imagery.”

Computer Science students participated in ACM’s annual International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) on Saturday, October 29 (also known as “The Battle of the Brains” – sponsored by IBM). The team members include Jeffrey Parks, Michael Clarke, and Darren Hampton, and Dr. Leonard Brown was the coach. The team finished 17th out of 68 teams.

Advising and Computer Science staff assisted the Robotics Team at The University of Texas at Tyler with the Forge/Fulfill Workshop for area high school and middle school students participating in the FIRST Tech Challenge. The workshop was held on Saturday, October 22nd.
