College of Engineering and Computer Science
DIVE Engineering Summer Camp

July 9-12, 2012
The College of Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Texas at Tyler, in collaboration with East Texas Ingenuity Center, is offering a residential summer camp for high school students interested in engineering.
This camp provides an exciting and challenging opportunity for young engineers and scientists to explore the principles behind engineering and computer science while working in a group using the WaterBotics Curriculum. "The WaterBotics curriculum scaffolds learning and mastery through a series of increasingly complex challenges that build successively upon each other. These four, team-based, hands-on design challenges enable learners to progress gradually to the final challenge, which integrates everything from the previous challenges. Through this process, teams gain experience with iterative designand design cycles, seeing first-hand the value of testing and redesign." (Waterbotics.org)
In addition to these activities, faculty from the College of Engineering and Computer Science will conduct workshops introducing students to career and educational opportunities. Advising staff and student mentors will discuss appropriate preparation for college and STEM related careers.
Students will discover and explore life on a college campus and have fun participating in recreational and team building evening activities. Parents and students will have an opportunity to share the students’ projects at the conclusion of the camp.
Students will be housed on campus at Ornelas Hall, and meals will be provided through residential dining services.
