Dub and BJ Riter Milennium Carillon Tower and Plaza, Carillon Tower
UT Tyler Bell Tower

The
Dub and B.J. Riter Millennium Carillon Tower and Plaza is
the largest carillon tower in Texas and the 15th largest
in America. Mr. and Mrs. A.W. "Dub" Riter Jr.
donated a gift of $1.35 million to the university for the
creation of the tower, which will be a primary symbol for
UT Tyler throughout the generations.
The carillon tower is 16 feet wide on each side at the base
and stands 80 feet from the ground to the main cornice above
the clock with a cap section standing 8 feet above that.
The tower houses 57 clear-tone bronze bells cast at a foundry
in the Netherlands and the carillon is anchored by one low-note
bell weighing more than 2,000 pounds.
Four identical clocks, each eight feet in diameter are located on each side of the tower. The Riter Carillon is centered in a circular plaza, 196 feet in diameter, featuring walkways, benches and landscaping.
