The University of Texas at Tyler University Advancement

Campaign Message from the President

President Mabry

Dr. Rodney H. Mabry

A few decades ago, East Texas leaders created this university with one goal in mind: raise standards of living for the people of this region. The University of Texas at Tyler, including its campuses in Longview and Palestine, takes its life-enriching and regional development roles seriously.

After unprecedented campus expansion to accommodate record growth, UT Tyler now Inspiring Excellence Buttonseeks a transformational change, shifting its focus to establishing true excellence in all its academic programs. Excellence is the key to establishing a strong foundation so that UT Tyler may take its place among the state’s top universities and inspire greatness in another generation—and develop the full potential of this region and its people.

We have entered a new, complex era which requires faculty endowments—chairs and professorships—to attract and retain scholar professors who are capable of conducting research to find solutions for the problems of the day and who are equally adept in passing that knowledge on as they educate students.

Just as important, the University needs more scholarships to enable the best and brightest East Texas students, a majority of whom have significant financial need, to go to this great university right here in their region. Further, we need scholarships in order to attract the best and brightest students to our region from cities and small towns all over Texas and the nation. History shows that, once here, most of these bright young people will ultimately stay in East Texas and help build the highly educated workforce that will attract higher-paying industries to our region.

Be an inspiration! I invite you to join in supporting your university through Inspiring Excellence: the Campaign for The University of Texas at Tyler!

Rod Mabry, President
