Pat Chandler Tiller Memorial Nursing Scholarship

 

 

Pat Chandler Tiller (1932-2002) graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and went on to acquire her Master’s in Interdisciplinary Studies from The University of Texas at Tyler. She taught Nursing for many years at Texas Eastern School of Nursing in Tyler, which later merged with Tyler Junior College. She also worked as clinical liaison for nursing students at both East Texas Medical Center and Trinity Mother Frances Hospitals in Tyler. She was a Charter member of Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society, Iota Nu Chapter at UT Tyler.

Pat Tiller was not only a nurse educator but a mentor to so many young people contemplating a career in Nursing. She was passionate about Nursing as a profession and service to society. She inspired students and faculty alike with her talent for motivation, optimistic hopes and innovative vision of the future of Nursing. She considered herself a Child Advocate and felt so strongly about it that she had it printed on her personal checks. She was often seen explaining to anyone questioning the meaning of the words printed on the check how important it was that every individual in our society had a responsibility to protect and nurture children.

Pat was an extraordinary individual and a firm believer in the promotion of education, especially nursing education. It is therefore in her memory that the Pat Chandler Tiller Memorial Nursing Scholarship has been created and endowed. It is our hope that each recipient will honor the life of Pat Chandler Tiller by accepting this award with every intention of becoming an active and honorable nurse, serving society as a trusted caregiver, child advocate, lifelong learner and educator of patients and communities.
