Svetislava J. Vukelja R.Dr. Lawrence L. Anderson and Dr. Svetislava J. Vukelja, dedicated supporters of the University of Texas at Tyler, are the recipients of the 2010 Patriot of the Year Award in recognition of their strong commitment to education and their philanthropy distinguished by perceptive and innovative giving. Encouraged and mentored by A. W. "Dub" Riter to pursue educational patronage at UT Tyler, the Anderson's have become known for their vision, energy and leadership to higher education.

Bob and Pat Herd
Bob and Pat Herd are the recipients of the 2009 “Patriots of the Year” award. The Herds recently completed a $1,000,000 commitment to the endowed Presidential Scholarship that bears their names at The University of Texas at Tyler. They have contributed faithfully since 1982 to the UT Tyler President’s Associates and have donated to the University’s Distinguished Lecture Series.
2005 Drs. Lee Roy and Lucy Mathis and Neal and Peggy Garland
Neal and Peggy Garland were the driving force behind the creation of The University of Texas at Tyler’s Longview University Center. “When efforts began to construct a university center in Longview, Neal and Peggy’s commitment to higher education led them to offer their vision and leadership, and to follow that with an extraordinary gift of $1 million for the construction of the Longview University Center and $600,000 for the creation of scholarships and development of activities at the center,” President Mabry said. As members of the President’s Associates, and with Mr. Garland on the UT Tyler Development Board and the Longview Development Council, the Garlands are active participants in the present and future of The University of Texas at Tyler, on both Tyler and Longview campuses.

Mary & Bob Irwin
The University of Texas at Tyler named Mary and Bob Irwin the 2004 "Patriots of the Year." The Irwins gave a generous gift toward the construction of a state-of-the-art baseball/softball complex at UT Tyler. “Mary and Bob understand the great value of having a top-flight NCAA Division III sports program at The University of Texas at Tyler. Opening in the 2004-2005 academic year, this ballpark will enable UT Tyler to attract top athletes and will serve as an important tool in developing a healthy student life atmosphere on campus,” said President Mabry.
